Position Summary:

Works under the guidance of an Engineer or Engineering Manager, provides support to process design, engineering and manufacturing by designing, creating, updating and modifying drawings and renderings that are utilized in the manufacturing of park amenities and playground equipment, steel and wood shelters (i.e. open-air pavilions), shades and canopy structures.

Operates computer aided applications including but not limited to Solid Works, CAD, 3-D software. Assures compliance with design and manufacturing requirements, federal guidelines and customer requirements

Works closely with other Departments and individual lines of business to develop all documents and required information for the release of existing and new products for manufacture and sale

Must be proficient in Solid Works, CAD, 3D software and Photoshop, be able to learn and adhere to applicable industry and government standards and regulations. Must understand that project management and time management to meet deadlines are crucial and have experience in meeting client demands.

This position requires professional and prudent communications both internally and externally working in a team environment with a diverse group of associates, customers, and suppliers and subcontractors.

Job may require light traveling to visit sites, overtime and a flexible schedule, reporting early and working late including weekends from time to time.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Performs preparations following a priority list and collecting the required sources of data including accepted drawing standards and conventions, sketches or scanned images, customer drawings, written and or verbal specifications and instructions, obtains specific data for dimensions and consults with Project Engineer and customer as required to complete the work order assigned according to customer specifications and delivery expectations

Studies the pertaining information and prepares design specifically create 3D models, presentation renderings, shop drawings and product release documentation with high precisions and as per scale, incorporating all details according to the required standards

Inspects his/her work by double checking each  aspect of the drawing or design and related documentation making sure that all components are there and not missing. Works closely with supervisor to review the final design or drawing to confirm compliance with client requests

Work closely with all team members and departments like Engineering and Production, to ensure that the drawings convey the correct information for quoting, estimating, and production.

Maintains the company’s system (NetSuite) by updating and creating items, DBworks (Solidworks add-on that organizes all of our models and drawings for Solidworks), creates blocks for AutoCAD and DXF files for panel creation in accordance with company policy and procedures

Organizes and stores drawings and relates information on the company’s systems according to standard procedures

Generates, maintains and provide documentation and technical support for R&D, testing, prototyping and procurement for products in these lines of business according to standard procedures and company policies

Assist in developing and maintaining company design standards to streamline the engineering process for each project

Reports in a timely manner any quality issues detected to immediate supervisor, completes proper documentation following department reporting procedure.

Help with or complete special projects at the discretion of the Supervisor.

Maintains 5’S practices in his/hers work area including in equipment according to company procedures


Must follow all applicable safety procedures

Performs additional duties as required

Required Education and Experience:

Education in Product Design, Mechanical Engineering, Product Manufacturing or relevant work experience in same or similar disciplines preferred but not required.

Degree or Certificate of training in Manufacturing or Drafting Technology or work equivalent

2 plus years of experience in creating shop drawings and working with document libraries

Experience with DB Works would be a strong plus

Required Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Possess thorough knowledge of product. Must be proficient in SolidWorks, CAD 3D modeling experience, Inventor or ProE may be considered, be able to understand rough sketches and read blueprints, and possess the ability of attention to detail, mechanical aptitude and good math skills. Accepts direction and critique, Asks questions when an assignment is unclear or unfamiliar

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, able to deal directly with vendors and subcontractors

He or she needs to have reasonable knowledge about construction and designing principles. Must have ability to interact with customers and other disciplines, possess excellent verbal and written communications skills

The person needs to be an excellent learner to learn the basics of whichever drawing he or she is asked to make.

He or she needs to have the interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team

Physical Demands:

Frequently siting and moderate walking, standing and climbing stairs, constant use of hands to operate computer, Talk/hear to communicate, converse with discern, convey, exchange information. Frequently seeing to detect, distinguish, perceive, identify, recognize, judge, inspect, estimate and assess, performs repetitive motion.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Safety glasses, safety toe shoes are required when in the factory.

Work Environment:

General work environment is office with frequent visits to the manufacturing floor
